Change has a particular way of arriving for gay and queer men of color.
It doesn’t always come as opportunity. Sometimes it comes as disruption — a role that shifts, a relationship that ends, an organization that restructures around you, a version of yourself that you’ve outgrown but haven’t yet replaced. And when change arrives that way, in the middle of already navigating systems that require extra from you, it can feel less like a doorway and more like a wall.
But transitions, even the ones that feel imposed, carry something. They carry information about what mattered, what didn’t, and who you are when the structure you relied on is no longer there to define you.
September’s Empower Hour is built around that space — the space between who you were and who you’re becoming.
About This Session
Empower Hour is a free, monthly virtual gathering for gay and queer men of color. One hour of honest, grounded conversation. No agenda other than the one that matters to the room.
This month’s theme: Navigating Change & Transitions.
We’ll sit with the reality of being in transition — professionally, personally, or both — and talk about what it takes to move through change without losing yourself in the process. How to hold uncertainty without letting it make your decisions for you. How to find the signal in the disruption. And how community can hold you when the ground is moving.
What We’ll Explore
- The emotional arc of transition — what it actually feels like to be between identities or chapters
- How to stay anchored in your values when external circumstances are shifting
- The role of community and support during periods of significant change
- Moving from reactive to intentional in the face of disruption
Who This Is For
Gay and queer men of color who are navigating a transition right now — or who have recently come through one and are still integrating what it meant. Also for those who can feel a change coming and want to meet it with more intention than they have in the past.
